Breaking New Ground

This is the first in a new series of abstract paintings. The series draws from my color studies, and explores new avenues in making oil paint by hand.

I’ve been studying the properties of oil paint and making my own paint on the palette from dry pigment and aged refined linseed oil. The Prussian Blue, the Ultramarine and the Red Earth (a Zecchi pigment) were hand ground shortly before I began the painting.

Lately I have been taking the Painting Best Practices class by George O’Hanlon, and the immersive look into materials inspired this new series.
